Bach: Christian Cantatas

Cantatas in Hungarian, with Hungarian and English surtitles

For the first time on the programme of the Opera

The Christian Season offers an opportunity – following on the heels of last year’s concert of Johann Sebastian Bach’s secular cantatas – to exploit the abundance of possibilities of total art to create a special performance from the composer’s sacred cantatas. The principal singer, a lone bass soloist appears in three different roles, which are held together by the motif of the cross.

This performance of Bach’s music is being put together with the physical theatre directing of Csaba Horváth, in collaboration with the Forte Company, which he founded more than ten years ago, and with Hungarian text created by poet János Lackfi.
